Massaranduba, as it is commonly known, is mostly distributed from South America.
Its heartwood has a light red colour, changing to a dark reddish-brown upon exposure, usually with a fairly straight grain.
Massaranduba is classed as a hardwood with a high density that can be worked with hand tools with a moderate blunting effect.
It is generally a slow drying lumber, in order to avoid severe checking, and has a moderate amount of movement in service.
Massaranduba decking is suitable for all domestic and some light commercial projects, and is a very popular species for external projects. Massaranduba decking will fade to a silver gray if left untreated. To retain the rich color, an oil based finish with ultraviolet inhibitors is recommended.
Above are some examples of products that are available in this species. Below are some examples of projects that have been completed with this species.
