BBC London Radio featuring The Natural Wood Floor Co
BBC Radio London Friday 12th July 2013 Jo Good 3.00pm – 5.00pm
Sales Manager, Mike Christophers popped into BBC London’s Afternoon Show to chat to Jo Good about wooden flooring.
Having established that The Natural Wood Floor Company is a manufacturer and wholesaler, selling to both trade and retail customers, Jo kicked off the show by highlighting the popularity of wooden flooring. The discussion then focused on how this movement began around 15 years ago when homeowners started to remove their carpets to renovate and rescue original wooden floors.
The Benefits of Wood
The advantages of wood were discussed, with Mike pointing out that wooden floors are much easier to clean and keep dust free than carpets, which helps reduce dust mites and related allergies. The fact that wooden floors can also be fitted with acoustic underlay to overcome sound issues was then addressed, along with how wood’s patina and character improves over time.
Engineered and solid wood
Jo was interested to hear that engineered wood is made up of several layers of hardwood ply and then finished off with a top, surface wood, while solid wood, as the name suggests, is constructed from one piece of timber. Mike then went on to point out the flexibility of engineered flooring and how it can be fixed to different sub floors plus the stability and strength of this type of flooring.

Wood Floor Maintenance
The Natural Wood Floor Company are a manufacturer so do not maintain floors, but carry a full range of maintenance products and they will happily recommend specialist companies.
The final topic was based on flow and how wooden flooring can be used to link different areas, such as changing rooms and showers. Mike pointed out that it’s the wood’s drying process which makes this possible and that one way to achieve this sense of flow in a residential property is to combine wooden flooring with exterior decking.
